Like a little libation every now and then? Well, there’s excellent news for those who love both alcohol and animals: vodka is vegan.
This fabulous factoid is the intro of a new book by Phil and Matt Letten, two dudes better known as the Vegan Bros. The full title of their new tome (now available everywhere) is Vodka Is Vegan: A Vegan Bros Manifesto for Better Living and Not Being an A**Hole. (Go order it via Amazon right. this. minute.)
If you’re not familiar with the bros, these two are all about showing the world how easy and awesome it is to be vegan, and to inspire everyone you encounter to go vegan along with you.
Matt and Phil have become massively popular on social media with their funny, contagious, no-fucks-given inspired approach to vegan advocacy. Their message is one of love, inclusivity, and acceptance for ALL — animal eaters or not.
They don’t live in a vegan bubble, and they don’t think anyone else should, either.
Having spent some time with these dudes (they hosted the 2018 Puppy Bowl and I refereed), I can say from experience that they live the values they espouse. They’re solid, stand-up, seriously inspirational human beings who are helping the world wake up.
As they like to say: everyone’s going vegan.
Their new book is already getting all the attention. And vegan or pre-vegan, this book will teach you SO MUCH. You’ll learn what’s so messed up about animal agriculture, how to be a better human being, how to have better conversations, and how to attract other people by being amazing.
Personally, I couldn’t put it down. It was funny, informative, and helped remind me of my personal purpose: bring more love into this world. I do that by being vegan. I do it by treating ALL animals (humans included) with love and kindness. I do it by not being an asshole.
Here are just a few of my favorite quotes:
“If part of the preparation for a meal involves something so gross or so offensive or so sickening that you can’t do it or even watch it, then maybe that is the sort of thing you shouldn’t be eating to begin with.”
“Being vegan doesn’t mean you can’t have fun. It doesn’t mean you always have to make healthy decisions or that you won’t wake up on a Sunday morning and regret things you did on a Saturday night. Vegans love to party, and eating vegan doesn’t mean you have to give up vodka, beer, or Sour Patch Kids. Live it up!”
“There’s nothing more rewarding than putting your money where your mouth is, to actually do your part to address terrible things happening in the world.”
“So if you’re having trouble in the sack, maybe change your diet before getting a prescription for new boner pills. Your libido is suffering because meat is slowly killing you.”
“We do what we can to make the world a better place, and one of the things we can do is not eat meat.”
“Being a good vegan means you help animals and people by how you eat — it doesn’t mean that every day you score a 1600 on your vegan SATs.”
“Our mantra is: every meal makes a difference.”
“Vegan is easy as fuck. And it’s only getting easier.”
And as they say of veganism:
“This is a big tent. Everyone is welcome.”
Amen. So buy the book. And enjoy you’re journey to veganism, ‘cuz it’s the greatest thing you’ll ever do.
